Deeply moved by the plight of orphaned and abandoned children in Romania, Katherine and Richard Miller provided one child with the greatest gift of all – a family.  Yet changing just one life was not enough.  Unable to turn their backs on the tens of thousands of others who were left behind, Katherine and Richard founded Lift the Children, a not for profit organization that promotes the right of every child to be loved and to live in safety and dignity.

Today Lift the Children is an international agency dedicated to reducing the impact and incidence of child abuse, neglect and abandonment.    Since 1998 we have partnered with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Romania to improve precarious conditions for the many vulnerable children and families who still suffer today from the legacy of Ceausescu era communism.  In 2008 Lift the Children will expand its direct service and training activity to Guatemala and former Soviet republics.

Lift the Children’s direct funding, training and technical assistance, delivered both at our Sacramento, California headquarters and abroad, have helped our partners develop and replicate innovative child and family services.  As an independent agency of the Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Center, a highly respected leader in child abuse prevention and advocacy in California and the United States, Lift the Children collaborates with local partners to keep families together and children safe.
