About Lift the Children
One of four agencies of the Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Center, Lift the Children is a 501 (c) public charity dedicated to protecting vulnerable children worldwide from the risk or impact of abuse, neglect and abandonment. We began our work in Romania in 1998 by developing in-country partnerships that helped create, revitalize and strengthen community-based programs for vulnerable children. Since then, Lift the Children has expanded its global reach and improved the lives of thousands of children of all ages, from infants who have been abandoned and abused to older youth exiting orphanages and foster care. We offer financial assistance, training and development support to our in-country nongovernmental (NGO) partners, who in turn provide critically needed services directly to children and families.
Children—wherever they live—are vulnerable to violence, neglect, and abandonment. We know that strong prevention services are the key to keeping children safe and out of institutions. Lift the Children and its partners protect children by providing their parents or kin with the tools to strengthen their families, reduce the risk of harm and prevent abandonment. In alignment with the 2006 U.N. Report on Violence Against Children, Lift the Children and our colleagues at the Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Center promote direct services – maternal and child health services, home visitation, parent education, and early childhood education – that are proven to be effective in reducing the risk factors that lead to child abuse. Our shared expertise at the Center allows us to take successful, proven service models from the local and state level to the international stage for adaptation and replication. Together we help keep families together and children safe and out of institutions.
